Dear parents:
We will need to use headphones during certain times through the week, so if you could please send your child with a pair of headphones, that would be wonderful. An email was sent out regarding skiing. This will be the same information for the next 2 times. Please drop off your child on time. The drop off time is @ 7:30am and the bus will leave at 7:45am SHARP! We cannot wait for latecomers. This week we have a math quiz on Tuesday and a spelling quiz on Wednesday. We will be writing pen pal letters to the grade 4 students from the Orphanage in India where our KCS high-school students will be visiting. Ask your student who they wrote to. :) We are learning about healthy eating in Health and Career. How to choose a food from each food group, and how much servings they should have from each food group. It would be wonderful if you could include your child when you pack their lunches so they can have a hands on experience. :) This Thursday we will have a Western Spirit day marking the end of our square dancing experience. Plaid, jeans, western boots, handkerchiefs, cowgirl and cowboy hats, etc... Google is a good tool for ideas:) IMPORTANT DATES: MONDAY JANUARY 16- TUESDAY JANUARY 17- Math Quiz WEDNESDAY JANUARY 18- Spelling Quiz THURSDAY JANUARY 19- Western Spirit Day FRIDAY JANUARY 20TH- Skiing #2

Happy New Year parents!
Our first 4 days went by pretty fast. Students had a little hard time adjusting this week, and are a bit tired most days towards the end. We just have to get into the swing of things! A few things from this week and a few for next: Students will no longer be switching for math class. Mr. Hein decided it would be more feasable for both myself and Mr. Fell to keep our kids; easier to change the schedule and add more language arts classes. So from this week, till the end of the month, all students will have me as thier math teacher. This week and for two more weeks we will be doing square dancing on Tuesday's and Thursday's. At the third week, parents will be welcome to view a performance by the grade 4's. More information will be available either next week or the week afterwards. Friday skiiing days commence next week. On January 13th, 20th and 27th we will be heading up to Silver Star. There will be no school or classes on those days. If you did not sign your child up, or have chosen to not send them on those days, please let myself and the office know as well. In Socials, students have a handout due at the end of class on Monday. It is called "European vs First nations way of life" Also on Monday, students will have an assessment on thier skills of badminton. Please make sure they have the appropriate gym strip for that week. Wow... I am constantly awaiting that beautiful blanket of white snow! The first day of snow fall is always my favorite. Then, not so much once it gets dirty and grey. I do not like to be in the snow, I just like how it looks- from inside my warm and cozy house.
Every year, this time of the month students start getting ancy and looking forward to a break away from school. I know the teachers *might* need the same :) At school we are ramping up towards the Christmas concert! I cannot wait to see what they have prepared for us this year. The students have all been working so hard, so I know it will be awesome. Save the date for December 8th, @ 6:30-8:30 :) Next week, ask your child who their secret Santa is for the week after... We will be exchanging gifts on the last day of school. Please keep it under $15 and please remember to stuff the gifts into a pair of socks! Just a friendly reminder that our school is Nut Free!!!! There are two students with severe allergies in our classroom and any contact can be dangerous! Please be extra vigilant if you are sending something to the classroom. The last day of school we will have a small class party and treats are welcome (but please read the ingredients prior) Vegetables, fruit, meat and cheese trays are usually safe. Your child will be asked to bring from a specific category, if there are any concerns or questions, please email me. Thank you. Just a reminder, Math projects are due December 15th! and will be presented (quickly) to the class on that day as well. As of next week, we only have 5 classes more to work on them, I am available during lunch times (when i am not on supervision) where your child is welcome to spend time inside working on thier math- but they must notify me prior so I can book the IPads. Important dates: December 5th- Secret Santa name exchange December 6th- Math Quiz December 8th- Christmas Concert December 9th- Buddy days with Pre-school December 15th- All Math projects due December 16th- Class party December 16th- Secret Santa Gift Exchange December 17th-Jan 2- Christmas Holidays -Dear parents:
The kids want to do a Secret Santa Gift Exchange for Christmas this year. My idea is that they will pick names out of a hat and then using two Christmas socks, fill them both with the gift or gifts they would like to purchase for that student. They can place candy, small toys, lip-gloss, finger-boards, etc. Tie it with a bow and ta-da! Ask your child about their math project. There are currently 4 different projects happing in class. Each student chose what they were interested in. We have, A class picnic, A class pizza party, The tallest building and The longest bridge. The Due date is December 15th. Report cards come out Monday after school. If you need to speak to me please regarding them or would just like to discuss your child's progress so far please sign up for the parent teacher conferences on December 2. Here is the link: https://www.schoolinterviews.ca/kiosk?ecode=sy42h There will be No school December 2nd, 2016. (Because of the parent/teacher conferences) Our elementary Christmas concert is on December 8th. It will be at 6:30 -7:30. Save the date. I love decorating for Christmas, and I hope we will have the most decorated classroom! We have already started with out desks and some other items. :) Dear parents, hope you all had a great weekend! I sure did!
Well, Christmas time is quickly coming up, so this week when we can, we will be doing crafts for class decorations. We will be decorating our front entrance with all class made items. If you could kindly please send a picture of your child as a baby and a family photo that you do not mind being displayed on our front door, that would be wonderful. We have already decorated our desks (which by the looks of things, might not last too long :) They are easily ripped. I have asked students if they have extra lights we could borrow, that would be great but please do not buy new or short yourselves. I had lots (LOTS) of icicle lights from last year, but they are very old and more than half are not working; so i cannot use them for this year:( We will be having a Secret Santa Gift Exchange in the classroom. My idea this year revolves around socks!!! YES SOCKS! Once students are paired with their Secret Santa person, they are to buy a pair of Christmas socks and only gift what they can fit inside. Hopefully they are not super stretchy socks!!! Socials projects were due today but we did not have a chance to present them, so students have received a small extension; until next class on Thursday. My math class has started on their new math projects. We will work on these until Christmas break. They are due on December 16th. The world of Disney spirit day turned out really well!!! Enjoy the photos. More photos under the PHOTO tab. 4Today we made poppies using cupcake liners as well as coffee filters. I had to use a blow-dryer to quickly have them dry to use as our craft! They turned out great! Have a blessed remembrance day!
Next week we have a math quiz (Just my math class) on exchanging more of one place value to the other, ex. 13 ones into 1 tens and 3 ones. Also, using regrouping where necessary when adding and subtracting. Also, on Monday, we have a bible quiz. The students were given a study guide of words they need to know as well as the names of the books in the division of the old Testament. They should know what the 4 divisions are and at least one book from each; or from which to which book they contain. Our spirit day is on Friday of next week. It is called the "World of Disney" please help your child find a Disney costume to wear. Treats are okay to be brought to class as well. We will probably have a movie for the last two blocks during our art class. Parent teacher conferences are just around the corner. The sign up sheet (document) will be available for parents on Saturday the 19th. I remember from last year that spots filled up quickly; especially the last 2 hours of the day. If you are having trouble with the link or directions you can contact me and i believe i can book time for you through my site. :) So, there was a debate on SUN FM of when it is too early to start decorating for Christmas holidays, since we are off on December 17th, i would like to decorate on the last week of November.... I love decorating!!! Its is lots of work- to put up and take down! I had lots of Christmas lights, but i had to throw away soooo many! if you have any extra you wouldn't mind borrowing to me, i would be very grateful! Also, we will need some wrapping paper- so we can wrap our desks with!! I am so excited:) Report cards are due within a week for me, and will be out to your child on the 28th. I have spoken to a few parents with concerns, but if you have not heard from me, or have some concerns to speak to me before hand, please email me so we can set up a quick meeting. FYI- there are still cases of lice happening here and there, so please be vigilant and check your childs hair every once in a while, as well, there have been a few cases of the stomach flu going around. Kids LOVE to share! As always, have a great weekend! God bless! Dear parents,
This week and all through till November 7th, our school is participating in a coin drive. This coin drive benefits The Child of Mine and the funds will assist orphans in India. Most of you are familiar with it, but if you are not, your child is welcomed to drop off coins in the morning to myself whenever they are able until November 7th. Once collected it will be counted and then tallied up on a chart near the library. We are hoping to be the winning class because in turn we win pizza for the whole class for lunch, and we are helping a great charity in the process. We had a great time at Club Penguin. The students were well behaved and got to make and test a real-people game. Swimming was also awesome! We had so much fun! and even though it rained lots, there were very little complaints! There are a few pictures on the PHOTO page. LIghts, Camera, action! Our October spirit day was full of lots of energy and fun times! I really enjoy seeing the students spirit and enjoyment for our spirit days. Good job on all the costumes! This week, my math class (which is a mix between Mr.Fell's class and mine, will be presenting their second math assignment starting tomorrow. We wont get through everyones project, so we might continue on Wednesday.
Have a great week! This week was another short one, and we welcome another one next week as well. I hope everyone had a great long thanksgiving. :) I know i enjoyed spending time with family and relaxing for a full day afterwards.
This week we had a visit to the McMillan Farms and we had great weather! It was so great to see how happy and excited all the students were. I sure learned alot during my time there. As many times as I've gone before, this was the first time i learned about the past of the Farm. One cool fact was that the McMillan's have owned the farm since the 1950's. WOW! Students will have a chance to write a response of what they saw and learned while they were there in connection with how the settlers might have lived when they came over to Canada for the first time. Photos are on the website under "photos" Please remember when you are going to take your child early from school, wether it be 10 min or 2hours, I would really appreciate being informed. Also please remember to sign your child out from the office before leaving the building. We have Physical Education three times during the week, and DPA twice. Having appropriate gym strip is part of your child's grade. I choose random days to do a gym strip checks and students are required to have a different shirt and shorts/pants then what they are wearing to school that day. It is worth 10% of their grade. Please remember to have your child bring their gym strip home on Fridays to have the clothing washed, and returned for Monday. Thank you. This week for math students had a chance to work on their new in-class math assignments. Most students chose to adopt their animal from the SPCA shelter:) So awesome! I am also planning on adopting a small dog once I find the right fit. If students were not able to finish their math homework, they should have completed Pages 38-40, and for Mr. Fell's class, pages 39-41. Coming up this week we have hot dog day on Monday, this only applies to those individuals who purchased them through our hot-lunch program. On Wednesday, our classroom is leading worship for chapel. Parents are always welcome to come and videotape and support their child and classroom friends. We will be practicing lots on Monday and Tuesday. Also, on Monday, we will be having our spelling test for the words we have been practicing. Students will be given a word and they have to place it into a complete sentence using conjunction and juicy words. The words are on my website, under Extra! Extra! Please remember to sign your students "Friday Letter" which outlined all the above written points, as well, there is a consent form for our Club Penguin field trip, It is due back MONDAY October 17th. On Wednesday October 26th we are taking the city bus to club penguin and then walk over to Parkinsons Recreational Centre for a swim and then back to the school for 3:00pm. Early pick-ups will not be available for this day. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. |
